What is RAM? What is the type of RAM? Complete RAM information

We will talk about RAM in this article. What is RAM? What is the full form of RAM? Types of RAM? Its importance and its function? And so on. You will find complete information about RAM in this article.
What is RAM? What is the type of RAM? Complete RAM information
Whenever we go to buy a new phone or laptop, we demand more RAM in it. Any user, everyone needs more RAM. But do you know about RAM? What is its function?

What is the function of RAM in mobile, laptop or desktop? Is there a difference between RAM and ROM? Do they differ from each other? It is very important for every computer and smartphone users to have good knowledge about all these.

What is RAM?

RAM is a type of memory that temporarily stores programs or software running in a computer. As long as the computer is running, or as long as the software is open, RAM stores it. And once the computer is turned off, all the data stored in it is deleted.

RAM is used to read or write data. It is a high speed semiconductor memory denied by a microchip.

RAM is a part of primary memory that is directly accessed from the CPU, hence it is also called Direct Access Memory.

RAM is a type of temporary memory. Which means, once the power supply of the computer is closed, all the data stored in the RAM is removed.

The storage capacity of RAM is less than that of secondary memory, but it has higher speed. All running programs and their data run and store on RAM in the computer.
Random Access Memory (RAM) is a form of computer memory that can be read and changed any order, typically used to store data and machine code. Wikipedia
Let us understand RAM by an example: -
Suppose you are making a presentation on MS PowerPoint in a computer. And you have prepared 10 slides, but you have not yet saved this presentation file in your hard disk.

So now tell me, where are your files stored in your computer? This file is stored in random access memory. And it will store in RAM as long as PowerPoint is open, or as long as your computer is powered on.

If you have a sudden power failure while working, the computer will shut down, and all your data will also run. And all your hard work will also be wasted.

Therefore, it is always advisable to use UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply) when using a desktop computer system And in a short interval, you also save your work in hard disk.

What is the full form of RAM?

The full form of RAM is "Random Access Memory". RAM plays a very important role in computers and smartphones. Without RAM, we cannot do any work.

Because the app or software we work on is stored in temporary memory, that is, it is stored in RAM. On running more programs or software simultaneously, the mobile or computer starts to work slow, it is due to the storage of RAM.

RAM features?

Let us now know the characteristics of RAM.
  • RAM is the primary memory of a computer.
  • RAM is also called volatile memory.
  • RAM is a direct access memory.
  • Its storage capacity is less as compared to secondary memory.
  • When power cut, this memory becomes empty.
  • RAM speeds are higher than secondary memory.
  • All programs, apps, software, etc., run in RAM and run.
  • It is also called the working memory of a computer.
  • This memory is slightly more expensive than other memory.

Types of RAM?

There are mainly two types of RAM. But in terms of size, RAM is designed according to different sizes of computers and laptops. And its size is very small in mobile.

RAM is divided into niche niche parts based on its storage capacity i.e. capacity and speed. RAM speed is measured in MHz and GHz and its storage capacity is measured in MB and GB.

Desktops, laptops, smartphones, tablets, etc. all have RAM, but every device has every type of RAM. So we cannot put the RAM of the laptop in the desktop or the RAM of the mobile in the laptop.

Because RAM is divided into different types according to size, speed and capacity. Let us know which are the two main types of RAM.
  • Static ram
  • Dynamic ram

What is static RAM?

Static means "stationary", that is, as long as current flows in the computer, data will be stored in it. Once the computer is power cut, all the data stored in it is deleted, and the RAM is completely empty.

It does not read the need to refresh the computer again and again. Because the data remains static in it. Static RAM is also called SRAM.

Static RAMs reduce power consumption and work faster than dynamic RAMs. It has low storage capacity and high manufacturing costs.

What is Dynamic RAM?

Dynamic RAM is the exact opposite of static RAM. They are not static, they are constantly changing, so it is named Dynamic.

Dynamic RAM is also volatile memory, all the data is removed after power cut in it too. It is also known as DRAM.

In DRAM, the data needs to be refreshed repeatedly to keep the data safe. Its capacitors, which store the data, keep reducing the power energy slowly.

After which if power discharge is done, then all the data stored in it is also removed. It has high memory capacity but low speed. And it also consumes more power but the manufacturing costs are work.

What are the differences between RAM and ROM ?

RAMROM
The full form of RAM is Random Access Memory. The full form of ROM is Read Only Memory.
RAM is volatile memory.ROMs are non-volatile memory.
RAM stores data temporally.ROM is the Permanent Store of data.
The storage capacity of RAM is in GB (Gigabytes). The storage capacity of ROM is in MB (Megabytes).
Data access speed of RAM is fast. The speed of data access of ROM is slow.
RAM is used to run programs in computer or mobile. The function of ROM is to store the data present in the device.

So guys, now you must have known everything about RAM. What is RAM? Types of RAM? Full form of RAM? And so on. You will now have full knowledge of RAM.
